Our Impact
We are taking every step slowly and intentionally to make sure what we are doing is helping and not hurting. Our artisans are paid for each item in full when we pick it up, not when we sell it. It is important to us that they are paid for the work they provide, not if it sells. Our goal is to provide enough work for these women that they are able to work full time and cover not only basic needs and school fees, but build a savings fund up as well.
Our profits from your purchases go back into our programs and campaigns to improve our artisans lives and those in their surrounding community. We are also currently building up a medical fund to help provide medical care for emergency situations as they come up for our artisans and their families.
It all started with a “yes” and a smile we couldn’t forget.
Our Story
Re:Joyce is named after Joyce, the talented artisan and entrepreneur we met on our first trip to Uganda in 2016. We were blown away by the beautiful jewelry that Joyce and her artisans were making. Not only that, but we were also inspired by the incredible hearts these women have for providing for their own children and others in their communities. We knew we wanted to share these products and the mission behind them with the world!
After starting Re:Joyce, we continued to travel back to Uganda and our relationship with Joyce continued to grow. Joyce began to share with us that because of the ongoing support she was receiving through orders, she was ready to invite other women into this venture. This group of women have very similar stories to Joyce’s story. They had all escaped and relocated there due to the unrest in Northern Uganda. Their husbands had either died or were missing after being taken to fight. These women have banded together as a group to help each other survive and provide for their children. Joyce has been a mentor to them, helping them learn to make the jewelry and bringing it to the guesthouse to sell.
We are honored to play a role in empowering these women and giving them dignified ways to provide for their families. Each product that’s purchased truly does make a difference in the life of a woman in Uganda. We want to say thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for supporting this mission!
